I was watching AMC the other day and caught On the Town. The dress Betty Garrett wears through much of the movie has got to be the basis for Gene's My Heartsong. In the movie, Betty didn't wear a hat, and her bolero was chartruese and she didn't wear a hat. One interesting thing to note though is that Betty wears butterfly jewelry, and Gene has a butterfly on her hat. As soon as I locate a good picture, I will post it.

In my haste last night I forgot to mention the FABULOUS table gift!! We got a wonderful mix and match outfit with skirt and cape, pants, two halters, with all sorts of posibilities.
Today there was a kick off breakfast, with the best biscuits and gravy I have eaten in a LOOOOOOOONG time, plus your eggs and bacon and all the other things!
Joan and Mel and the rest of the Gene Team were on hand to make some short introductions and to say a few words. A representative from the Tulsa Chamber of Commerce presented Mel and Joan with a certificate from the Governor of Oklahoma, and there was also a special certificate for Gene from the Mayor of Tulsa. She mentioned (forgive me I am soooooo bad with names!) that the Gene convention has brought in $300,000 worth of revenue for Tulsa!! And I must say, I was a bit hesitant when I hear it was going to be in Tulsa, but Sandra and her team, as well as the hotel staff have put on a first class act! Everyone is soooooooo friendly!!
The table dolls at the breakfast were redressed Simply Genes in capris and a bolero made out of the matching SG fabric. They were raffled the same way they were last night. We also received a wonderful jewelry set in black and white, a small newspaper and a key to the City! THEN as if that weren't enough, we also received ANOTHER outfit, a simple skirt and bolero that matches the Platinum SG swimsuits. They are trimmed in the SG material. AND a black terry cloth robe. FABULOUS!! (That's the word of the day!! ;o)
I attended my first workshop and embellished a wonderful capelet. Becky Geis was the instructor. I am off to do a silk ribbon embroidery class next.
And of course MORE shopping.
Barbecue tonight. AND more to come!!

Convention is a BLAST! Upon check in we received an AWESOME totebag with an embroidered star saying Gene, with a miniature one for Gene. Room shopping already started by the time I got there and I found some wonderful loot! The staff at the hotel is awesome, welcoming us as we got off the shuttle and as we picked up our registration items.
Then later the Pre-Convention Get Together got underway. Sandra and her crew went all out. There were three different dolls as table centerpieces. Each one gorgeous. Featured artists were Cindy Lorimar and Paintbox and eeek...someeone else I can't recall. Sandra said some words, and they held drawings for the door prizes, including all sorts of wonderful things. Fashion Blvd. outfits, and other wonderful things. Marl Davidson from Marl & B. donated alot of dolls and such. So thank-you Marl! (If I sound a bit rambly, its because I am trying to remember everything...I am operating on about three hours sleep.)
Then there was cake! YAY CAKE! LOL. Then if that wasn't enough, at each table we had a number from one to ten, then they chose a number and that person who had that number WON the centerpiece doll!!!
AND ROOM SHOPPING! LOTS AND LOTS OF ROOM SHOPPING!!
The first round of pics are up! They are in no particular order, but there are pics of room shopping (Jim Howard's dolls, Morito Kimonos).
Enjoy!
By the way check out The Rumba Room for a sneak peek of my competition doll!
Okee I really need to get to bed. I've got to be up in two hours!! LOL.

Geeez...RE: Madra Trunk Set and it's ridiculous price*BOYCOTT*(msg)
Hmmm...lets do the math: You have a trunk, a dressed doll, a suit, and a fur coat, plus shoes and accessories. Hmmmm...you'd pay at least that much if you bought the items separately. Seriously I do not see what the big deal is. I will NOT be boycotting this set.

By the way, I "updated" The Rumba Room over at The Spa. If for whatever resons you are unable to see the page, you can get the photo links here. Geocities only allows three gigabytes of traffic a month. And last month I went over that limit! (Thanks by the way! ;o) I think that's it.
Marcia of Facets by Marcia has her pictures up from the Modern Doll Convention!
And my buddy Reba has her pictures up as well! Bewitching Beauties
Here's the doll I did for the 1999 Gene Convention.

The Modern Doll Convention is underway in New Orleans, and our own Malisa was there for Effanbee's Brenda Star event: MDC report.... Thanks Malisa!!
And my buddy Reba attended the Alex dinner last night and sent this tidbit:
I made it in 30 minutes before the Alexander dinner, and am glad I didn't miss it. The table doll and dinner dolls were very nice. The name tags were mixed on the 2, but the convention doll is called Bewitching Beauty (lmt 200) and the centerpiece doll is Modern Beauty (lmt 25).
We got to see 3 new Alex dolls for 2002. 1 is an Asian friend called Jade wearing Cherry Blossom. The facial sculpt is gorgeous!!! The other 2 are Houston Blues and Denver Date.
That's it folks, sorry no pics, they asked to not post them.
