Message From Joan Greene Re: CA Signing Events

Wednesday, September 12, 2001

Here's my own e-mail to Sandra:

Dear Sandra,

I was in the midst of thinking of an e-mail to send to you when I saw your post on Vicky's. Thank-you for stating so elequently what I have been thinking for the last two days. We are still in shock, and will be for awhile, but the cancellation of Convention will do nothing to regain all that has been lost.

I am saddened, and still in that dream-like state. And as silly as it seems, I like to think what Gene would do in this situation, and imagine her on her USO tour rallying support and keeping up morale. Yes, this is all a fancy, but life for the living goes on.

From the snippets of information I am hearing from those involved with the convention, I know all the amount of love, hard work, not to mention financial resources you have put into making "An Oil Baron's Ball" a reality. But for me the convention is more than just a "doll gathering." I am seeing friends who have become very dear to me. And with that the convention itself becomes secondary. It was all thanks to Mel, and his dream that we are able to share not only our joy, but sorrows. There is some saying that a joy shared, is doubled, that a sadness shared is halved.

I was thinking along the lines of Blossoms suggestion, with perhaps donating the proceeds of the auction to Victims' Relief Funds. As well as perhaps observing a moment of silence for those who died in this terrible tragedy.

This is becoming much longer than I thought, but I wanted to say thank-you and I will see you in October.
I shall be posting this on my own site, and on Vicky's. Thank-you again, and HUGE HUGS.

Thank-you Sandra, I feel the same way: Convention statement. (At the risk of being flamed )

And I do like Blossoms' suggestion.

Due to the tragedies in NY and Washington DC the signing event this weekend has been cancelled. We will still have our drawings for the Tour Doll and Artist Proof of Black Widow.

What about the conventions???

Should the Conventions be cancelled? What do you think?

To say the Nation is in shock is an understatement. But, I have no words, or too many words that want to tumble forth. Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers today.

Just got confirmation from AD that Mel and Joan are okay... (more)

Dolls are an escape for me...but this is too surreal for me to escape from.

Huge hugs to all.

Okee so its doing it again GRRRRR.

Okee comments are back! Glad that was an easy fix! :o)

I've disabled the comment feature for the time being, as it seems to be the cause of some java-script errors. When I have figured it out, I will turn it back on.

I checked with my superiors before posting...

The main reason I posted this...

!!!EXCLUSIVE 2002 GENE PREVIEW!!! Amazing!!! Let's see how much of this comes to fruition (Although if its in the computer with prices and I assume, stock numbers...) and what the aftermath will be...

Madra's Screen Test Trunk Set.....what a cheap trick AD has pulled. Okay Rant Mode On!! You know its posts like these that make me wonder why some people collect dolls in the first place. AD is a business -- so yes, they are out there to make money!!! Shocking isn't it. There is a simple solution, if you don't like the item, or are not willing to pay the price -- DON'T BUY IT. How simple is that? And with the way Gene items are selling on eBay, if you wait long enough I am sure you can find either pieces or the whole set discounted. Geeesh. People act as if AD owes us something. But they don't. They are a business and businesses are out to make money, otherwise they wouldn't be a business. Okee, rant mode off...

Ahhh....

All Movie Guide - 20th Century Fox What other dolls and costumes will we see AD produce? Can this site give us any hints?

Hmmmm...seems we had a search for Bobbi Ray Carter...interesting. Anyways she is a host on HSN. This link will give you the program schedule and times when Miss Carter will be on. Go forth and have fun! :o)

Okay here is a post by Sarah regarding Susan Wakeen's Cassie doll.

With no vinyl Kate on the horizon, I WANT Cassie! (Kate was a vinyl doll by The Family Co. who was sculpted by Robert Tonner. She was released in a porcelain version, and she was sculpted as a teen-ager. Looks like Cassie if and when she is produced, will fit that bill.)

Thanks to my buddy Vera, she saw this posted on the Genelist:

I went to the the MA convention two weeks ago here in Boston, and Herb Brown, the retiring chair :( announced that, besides Judy Garland in "Summerstock," the other dolls of the "Leading Ladies" collection (a first ever, for MADC) were going to be:

- Judy Garland in "Meet Me in St. Louis"
- 2 Greta Garbo dolls in "Camille" and "Grand Hotel"
- 2 Marlene Dietrich dolls in "Blond Venus" and "Shanghai Express"

VICKY'S BARBIE DOLL BULLETIN BOARD Yes, I knew it always existed, but here's a link to it. I wish I could keep up with *all* the cool fashion doll pages! LOL.

Just like I wish I could keep up with *all* the new fashion dolls coming out. Last week someone did a search for Cassie. All I know about her is that she is part of the Susan Wakeen Eve line. (A friend perhaps?) These dolls really do nothing for me (Which is surprising since there are several of her other dolls I really love.) that is why there has been nothing on her, but for my readers I will search! Look for some more info hopefully in the next few days.

And while on different tangents, has anyone had their Brenda Starr come unstrung? My Mom's Brenda was in storage for awhile, and she recently took her out to play, and discovered to her horror that her body was all limp! We plan to have her restrung but has this happened to anyone else? (If you have a second, you can drop me an e-mail me or just hit the "comment" link below. Thanks.)

Rate & Review Network An interesting concept, I shall have to look into more when I have some time.

Remember this comment I made?

Looks like my wish is going to become a reality. Sunday I picked up the latest issue of Vogue Patterns and inside is an article about Gene. (Check out the original reference here.)

Here's a little excerpt from the article:

Vogue Patterns tracked Gene's sucess closely, and in 1999 approached Mel (Odom) about doing a costume collection for home sewers. "Gene appeals to our vintage customer," says James Bosco, "and we loved the idea of using our pattern archives to design vintage garments on miniature scale." Mel agreed immediately, and the first two styles -- a gown and a suit -- were introduced in September of that year. Since then, patterns for Madra have been added to the line, and clothing for Trent will be launched in the January/February 2002 catalog.

Whee!!! I can't wait!!

And even though its not for dolls, YOU MUST check out pattern # 7464. I LOVE the green one!!

While listening to the radio yesterday I caught an interview with Destiny's Child. And come this Christmas, we will get to have dolls of them! They will be produced by Hasbro.
